The complete collection of Walt Disney's Davy Crockett series is now available, featuring all 5 episodes that chronicle the adventures of the legendary King of the Wild Frontier. From Davy Crockett, Indian Fighter to Davy Crockett at the Alamo, these classic tales provide wholesome entertainment for the entire family. This edition includes an introduction by Leonard Maltin. The episodes included are: Davy Crockett, Indian Fighter; Davy Crockett Goes to Congress; Davy Crockett's Keelboat Race; Davy Crockett and the River Pirates; Davy Crockett at the Alamo.

For the first time, the uncut versions of the five Davy Crockett episodes that aired on Walt Disney's "Disneyland" show (1954-55) are now available. These episodes sparked one of the biggest pop culture crazes of the 1950s, with an estimated $300 million worth of Crockett merchandise sold in just eight months, including 10 million "coonskin" caps. Despite the modest budget, Davy Crockett stood out from other westerns of the time, thanks to its vibrant locations and impressive matte shots, as noted by host Leonard Maltin.

The original three episodes were later assembled into the theatrical feature film Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier (1955). Additionally, the more lighthearted adventures from the second season, which introduced the flamboyant riverman Mike Fink (played by Jeffrey York), were released as Davy Crockett and the River Pirates (1956). Fess Parker portrayed the iconic frontiersman, bringing a tall and ruggedly handsome presence to the role, while Buddy Ebsen's portrayal of sidekick Georgie Russel added depth to their scenes.

Fifty years later, Davy Crockett continues to captivate audiences as a powerful symbol of national legend. Even in our uncertain times, younger viewers will be pleasantly surprised at how this straightforward hero still holds his timeless appeal. --Charles Solomon
