The Product Description portrays Dr. Dana Stowe, the head of women's medicine at Rittenhouse Hospital, and Dr. Luisa "Lu" Delgado, who runs an inner-city clinic. Despite their contrasting approaches to medicine, they are paired up to run the Rittenhouse Women's Health Center. This long-running Lifetime series, produced by Whoopi Goldberg and Tammy Ader, consists of all 22 episodes of the first season on a 5-disc DVD set.
In this premier season (2000) of Lifetime's longest-running original series, two strong-willed and capable female doctors must establish a working relationship as their practices are merged. The DVD box set includes all 22 episodes, starting with the "Pilot," which introduces the characters and the intense setting of the drama.
Rosa Blasi portrays Dr. Luisa "Lu" Delgado, who runs the South Philly Women's Clinic, catering to a full caseload of indigent patients, drug addicts, and abuse victims. Dr. Delgado, a straightforward and independent thinker, empathizes with her patients and fights to sustain her free clinic against financial difficulties. Janine Turner plays Dr. Dana Stowe, a skilled surgeon at Rittenhouse Hospital, serving patients from the opposite side of the city and a different socio-economic background. Driven by textbook medicine, Dr. Stowe clashes with Dr. Delgado's unconventional methods. The series explores a spectrum of women's health issues, including infertility, abortion, rape, genetic testing, co-dependency, breast cancer, and right-to-die. The first season establishes a foundation for the series' popularity.
In addition to Blasi and Turner's compelling dynamic, the supporting cast delivers standout performances, particularly Josh Coxx as nurse/midwife Peter Riggs and Jenifer Lewis as receptionist Lana Hawkins. The series balances intense drama with moments of comic relief, often provided by Hawkins' banter with her colleagues. Executive producers Tammy Ader and Whoopi Goldberg contribute their vision, with Goldberg also featuring in the Pilot episode as Dr. Lydia Emerson, a pioneer in women's health.
The only shortfall of the DVD box set is the lack of bonus material, such as interviews, audio commentaries, or outtakes, which could enhance the viewing experience. Viewer discretion is advised due to violence, language, and adult themes.
