Without any prior notice, Jesse Threebears, a 16-year-old Native American, is abruptly removed from his current foster home and forcefully taken back to the reservation where he was born. Over time, Jesse starts to adapt to his new life with his grandfather (portrayed by Graham Green, known for his role in Dances with Wolves) and even finds love. However, there is one boy who is aware of the tragic secret surrounding Jesse's mother's demise and is determined to destroy the happiness he has recently found. Eventually, these two adversaries find themselves engaged in a life-or-death struggle during an annual horse race.
