Pina, released by the Criterion Collection, is a visually stunning documentary directed by Wim Wenders about the work of legendary German choreographerPina Bausch. The film follows members of her dance company, Tanztheater Wuppertal, as they perform several of her most important works, including The Rite of Spring, Café Müller, and Kontakthof. Rather than simply telling Bausch’s life story, the film communicates her artistic vision through movement, music, emotion, and striking cinematography.

The Criterion Collection edition presents the film as both a celebration of Bausch’s creativity and a portrait of the dancers who worked with her. The performances explore themes such as love, loneliness, desire, conflict, and human connection, often using unusual movements and dramatic stage designs. With its innovative use of 3D filmmaking, beautiful locations, and powerful performances, Pina offers an immersive introduction to modern dance and shows how Bausch transformed ordinary human emotions into expressive physical art.
