For those who thought 2004s Aliens vs. Predator lacked enough gore and firepower, Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem turns things up a notch, delivering more of both along with plenty of battles between the titular extraterrestrials. Set in the 21st century (before the events of the Alien films), the story begins when a damaged Predator ship crashes in a small Colorado town, unknowingly bringing H.R. Gigers nightmarish creatures with it. The monsters quickly decimate most of the population, while a Predator warrior arrives to take them onincluding a terrifying Alien-Predator hybrid, nicknamed the Predalien by fans and press. First-time directors and visual-effects pros The Strause Brothers keep the action non-stop, which helps gloss over the thin dialogue and forgettable charactersa non-issue for the teenage male audience the film clearly targets. Longtime Alien fans, however, may find the brief nod to the series mythology in the finale to be its one redeeming moment.
